Viradham or Vratham means "a vow" and the parents, in this case, take a vow that everything in the marriage goes well. They conduct a puja, or ceremony by fasting for part of the day, until the ceremony is complete.
According to Priti: "Viradham - not for any god specifically, it is when you are re-born and your parents whisper your name again into your ear ("naming ceremony" where you are born fresh again, and they tie the raksha to ward off evil)"
Remember 9 lucky people commenting on this or any of the other past or forthcoming posts about Priti and Tahir's wedding will win a special CD called "Rare Pulse" by Dr. Krishna Raghavendra. So, what are you waiting for? |
